HPD asking public for assistance

  The Hinesville Police Department is asking the public for help regarding a suspicious Snapchat post that appeared at 6 p.m. Thursday on the social media app. The post made by an unidentified individual showed a firearm and marijuana and tagged the post with “at Snelson Golden Middle School.” The username associated with the post is Babybuckz69. Anyone with information related to the post should call 912-368-8211. Parents were informed of the unsubstantiated threat via a text message or email last night, sent out by Principal Dr. Anthony K. Johnson. The email said the school was working with law enforcement and stated that every safety protocols were being put in place. “The safety of our staff and students is always a priority,” the statement read. “It has come to our attention that students across the nation are posting things like this as a joke.” The statement continues with a plea that parents talk to their kids about the serious nature of making false or any type o...

World of Beer coming to Flemington

  In addition to a new grocery store, the City of Flemington soon will soon be the new home to World of Beer, which posted on its website an opening planned for 2023. Flemington City Council members approved at their Aug. 9 meeting a variance request from Genesis Engineering for a proposed grocery and retail space at East Oglethorpe Highway and Flemington Village Boulevard. The property consists of 10.6 acres with 588 feet of frontage on Oglethorpe Highway. The planned grocery store will be 47,250 square feet. The plan includes a 2,660-square-foot space for a possible restaurant, and 8,400 square feet for retail shops. The grocery store and the outparcel are planned to have two entrances off Flemington Village Boulevard and a right-turn-only access and exit from Highway 84. Mayor signs proclamation supporting renaming VA Clinic

  Hinesville Mayor Allen Brown has signed a proclamation supporting the renaming of the Veterans Affairs Community Hinesville Community Based Outpatient Clinic to: The Gibson/James/Sapp/ Smiley Community Based Outpatient Clinic. A committee comprised of Brenda Acebes, Nolan Fields, Bruce McCartney and Donald Singleton reached out to the Liberty County Board of Commissioners, City of Hinesville and the City of Riceboro to support renaming the clinic for the four Liberty County veterans who were killed in the Vietnam War. During their initial research the committee found Riceboro native John Gibson was a Marine combat infantryman who died in Vietnam on Feb. 7, 1968 while engaging the enemy and Riceboro native Dan James was an Army combat infantryman who died in Vietnam on Dec. 29, 1968 while engaging the enemy.  At a City of Riceboro meeting on Feb. 1, Mayor Chris Stacey and council approved a proclamation to start the process of trying to rename the Hinesville VA Clinic i...

Police pursuit ends with injuries to suspect

  Lewis Levine A police pursuit Tuesday morning which ended in a wreck has taken another twist as new details are being released by Liberty County Sheriff William Bowman. Bowman reported the suspect, who led deputies on a chase on Airport Road in Hinesville, apparently suffered a self-inflicted gunshot to his head. Bowman said when deputies went to remove the man from the vehicle after the accident, they noticed a large amount of blood on his head even though he was wearing a seatbelt.  When he arrived at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah via emergency medical helicopter it was discovered the man had suffered a gunshot wound. A weapon was later found inside the Honda Pilot he was operating. Bowman said there was no gunfire exchanged during the chase either by the suspect or deputies.   Bowman notified the Georgia Bureau of Investigation who conducted a quick investigation.   Organizers demand former DA’s prosecution, justice for families Lewis Levine and Patty Leon Wearing bright red T-shirts that had the words “Jackie Johnson misdeeds,” printed on them, organizers banded together in Brunswick this past weekend demanding that state attorney Chris Carr do his job and prosecute former Glynn County District Attorney Jackie Johnson. On Sept. 2, Carr announced the indictment of the former District Attorney on charges of Violation of Oath of Public Officer and Obstruction of a Police Officer. As alleged in the indictment, these charges are related to the investigation surrounding the shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery. Event organizer Thea Brooks, Arbery’s aunt, said several families who feel they’ve been wronged by Johnson are uniting to get the justice they deserve. “We want to help them get justice for their loved ones,” she said.
